How To Brush Your Dog's Teeth


It can take a while to get your dog used to having their teeth brushed, all you need is patience and consistency.

1️⃣ Grab your dog toothpaste and brush. Start with short sessions, let your dog taste the toothpaste and get used to the toothbrush in their mouth.


2️⃣ Squeeze a small pea-sized amount of toothpaste onto your toothbrush. Lift their top lip and use gentle, circular motions to brush your dog's teeth as you would your own. Repeat with bottom lip.


3️⃣ Gradually increase the amount of teeth covered each day.

    I recently tried the Dog Dental Starter Kit for my toy poodle. Unfortunately, even the smallest toothbrush included was too big for his tiny mouth, which made brushing difficult. He also didn’t like the taste of the toothpaste and was quite resistant, especially since he’s not used to having his teeth brushed.

    That said, I did notice that the toothpaste itself seems effective—after a few attempts, his breath was slightly fresher, so I can see its potential if your dog tolerates it better. This kit might be a good fit for medium to large dogs, or those already used to a dental routine. For small breeds and beginners like mine, I’d recommend pairing the toothpaste with a softer, smaller toothbrush or finger brush.

    Dental starter kit.

    Dental starter kit. I bought this kit to try and get my little man used to cleaning his teeth. Still practicing. He loves the taste of the toothpaste. The toothbrush is good and I'm sure he will get used to it the more I do it . It is hard to do the top of the back teeth as it is shaped to do the sides. Persistence pays!
